DISTRICT AND SCHOOL GOALS 15-16

District Goals

Goal 1:   All students will be college and career ready when they graduate from high school (high academic success).
  • Strategies:  Quality standards set by leadership through expectations and evaluation, peer coaching support, and collaborative teams that address student learning.  
Goal 2:  The district will provide opportunities for successful activities (sports, fine arts, academics) through maximum student and community participation.
  • Strategies: Recruiting excellent coaches, grow starter programs, Implement a strong boosters organization.
Goal 3:  The foundation of maintaining a highly effective workforce will be done by improving hiring practices as well as supporting new staff through training and mentoring programs.
  • Strategies:  Timely and effective posting, collaborative interviewing, reference checks and appropriate negotiations, creating a desirable work environment and by training and retaining quality staff.
Goal 4:  The district will provide an environment that promotes and maintains healthy professional relationships.
  • Strategies:  Find genuine ways to show appreciation and gratitude, build time into each day and each week to talk to staff and provide assistance as needed, we need to better understand what our people do and how they serve students
Goal 5:  Through school policy, staff training, and improvements to the facilities, the district will promote and maintain a safe environment for all students and staff in the district.
  • Strategies: All students, staff and 4.0 Bus Company will be provided a safe and supportive school environment. We will comply with the safe and supportive schools legislation training. We will implement: Hall Pass , a “Buzz In” system upgrade, Rachel’s Challenge, Friends of Rachel. Elementary OLWEUS anti-bullying program, revision of crisis management plan, and continuing the cybersafety focus for students. We will provide ongoing training for staff and students.
  • We will schedule trainings, implement, Hall Pass with buzz in system, “Friends of Rachel” activities, upgrade the security system (cameras and recording) and continue the  School Resource Officer prevention and support
Goal 6:  The district will maintain high quality facilities across the buildings through careful and comprehensive fiscal and maintenance planning.
  • Strategies:  Track, Roofing, Elementary Boiler, Parking, Gym floor resurfacing, Food service, Vehicles, other maintenance/remodelling, define budget timeline activities and procedures in writing through a format of a standard procedures.  The written procedures will be completed by June 2015. A Collaborative model will be used to include MDE, SCRED, and TIES as a resource,  Steps and timelines will be made for the board to review.  The district will update procedures on a yearly basis.
Goal 7:  The district will continue to focus on communication with families and the community to give an ongoing, transparent view of school functions and activities.
  • Strategies: Parents and community members will be reached through email, calendars, website, FaceBook, newsletters, SchoolReach, and special events each year.
  • Submit a monthly article for the local paper.
  • Senior Citizen Brunch/Matinee: We will invite senior citizens to a free brunch/matinee to the first performance of the play, “Alice in wonderland” on November 13th, 2014 @ 8:30
  • Drop Off/Pick Up Focus Group: We will meet to determine a recommended course of action for the short term and long term.
  • Building strong collaborations with PTCC, the city and the county.  Participation in the county strategic planning, the Chancellor selection process and the ECMECC strategic planning.  
Goal 8:  The district will continue to focus on the maintenance of high quality district buildings and facilities.
  • Strategies:   updating the school track, roofing-roof projects will be updated yearly with the capital plan
  • Elementary Boiler-AMERESCO will present additional information at a future School Board meeting.
  • Parking-We will contemplate additional parking and asphalt in January depending and may depend on requirements by the city.
  • Gym floor resurfacing-The resurfacing is anticipated to be included with FY16 budget cycle.
  • Vehicles-We currently have a large van to purchase as a replacement for bus #1105.  Our replacement cycle will be updated yearly.
  • Other maintenance/remodelling-The High School nurses office needs to be remodelled and may include adding a restroom.

Elementary School Goals

Goal 1:  Increasing Student Learning 
  • ImPACT teams will develop strategies to look at student data and make changes to classroom teaching designed to positively impact student achievement for formative assessment, summative assessment, and standardized exams (MAP, MCA)
  • Continue the use of Grade Level Team Facilitators to look at data and make instructional decisions.
  • Implementation of 2:1 iPads in 5th grade.
Goal 2: School Activities
  • Continue to offer after school choir.
  • Continue to disseminate information activities offered through Community Ed. and other school related activities. 
Goal 3: Hiring Practices
  • Timely effective recruitment
  • Effective 1st year mentorship program
  • Effective staff development during years 1-3 (ImPACT, mentorship, in-depth teacher evaluation training)
  • Collegial atmosphere and supportive, satisfying work environment to increase job satisfaction
Goal 4:  Healthy Relationships
  • Celebrate group success monthly
  • PBIS Committee’s Staff Focus Committee Activities for staff at least 6x/year.
  • Effective and accurate employee evaluation
Goal 5:  Safe Environment
  • Continue to pursue improvement of drop off and pick up locations
  • Bully Prevention Committee and school activities
    • Bully prevention week in October with CLIMB Theatre
    • Kindness week in March with NED show.
  • In response to student survey, Bully Prevention Committee will concentrate on what bystanders can do when they see bullying.
  • Training of new staff on safe schools legislation
  • Peaceful Playground will be added to student recess time.
Goal 6:  Facilities
  • General Maintenance
Goal 7:  Budget management
  • Supply budgets appropriately budgeted to teachers.  End of year balance zero or positive.
  • Accurate dispersal of capital funds to maintain a zero or positive balance.
Goal 8:  Community communication
  • Daily school announcements posted to school website.
  • Accurate teacher web pages with contact information, classroom management plan, assignment calendar, and activities specific to grade or particular classroom.
  • Timely updating of home page of school website with school positive happenings
  • Any urgent or emergency information will be transmitted via school reach email and/or phone calling system

Secondary School Goals

Goal 1:  Increasing Student Learning 
  • PCHS will continue MCIS career growth plan into student’s junior year earlier than in grades 9-10 because of ACT prep, schedule planning for their senior year, and scholarship planning.
  • PCHS will research accelerated classes in the area of ELA for grades 7-10 in hopes of implementation for school year 2016-17.
  • ImPACT teams will develop strategies to look at student data and make changes to classroom teaching designed to positively impact student achievement for formative assessment, summative assessment, and standardized exams (MAP, MCA, ACT)
  • Implementation of 1-1 initiative to include chromebooks in grades 9 and 12.
  • Through planning of the career committee, student opportunities to explore post-secondary options will increase.
Goal 2: School Activities
  • Consider coaches during teaching recruitment as second tier determining factors after teaching prowess.
  • Research effective practices of allowing booster clubs access to fundraising at school events.
Goal 3: Hiring Practices
  • Timely effective recruitment
  • Effective 1st year mentorship program
  • Effective staff development during years 1-3 (ImPACT, mentorship, in-depth teacher evaluation training)
  • Collegial atmosphere and supportive, satisfying work environment to increase job satisfaction

Goal 5:  Safe Environment
  • Use of K9 services
  • Kindness committee and school activities
  • Promotion of annual kindness week
  • Implementation of 9th grade Rachel’s Challenge “Chain Reaction.”
  • Active Friends of Rachel (FOR) club
  • Training of new staff on safe schools legislation
Goal 6:  Facilities
  • Continuing implementation of new student lockers
  • Gym floor resurfacing and painting
  • School indoor painting continuing
Goal 7:  Budget management
  • Supply budgets appropriately budgeted to departments via department chair.  End of year balance zero or positive.
  • Accurate dispersal of capital funds to maintain a zero or positive balance.
Goal 8:  Community communication
  • Daily school announcements posted to school website
  • Accurate teacher web pages with contact information, classroom management plan, and assignment calendar
  • Timely updating of home page of school website with school positive happenings
  • Any urgent or emergency information will be transmitted via school reach email and/or phone calling system

Alternative Learning Center Goals

Goal 1:  Increasing Student Learning  
  • Participate in Early College Program:  Conduit to College, a partnership between PCALC and PTCC.  Students will be able to earn high school credit for Developmental Education courses taken at Pine Tech.
  • ImPACT teams will develop strategies to look at student data and make changes to classroom teaching designed to positively impact student achievement for formative assessment, summative assessment, and standardized exams (MAP, MCA, ACT)
  • Implement ACT English and ACT Math courses for all juniors to prepare for the ACT test.
Goal 2: School Activities
  • PCALC will take students on educational outings that focus on the following areas:  service, fine arts, recreational activity, career.
Goal 3: Hiring Practices
  • Timely effective recruitment
  • Effective staff development during years 1-3 (ImPACT, mentorship, in-depth teacher evaluation training, MAAP conference)
  • Collegial atmosphere and supportive, satisfying work environment to increase job satisfaction
Goal 4:  Healthy Relationships
  • Celebrate group success monthly
  • Individual praise
  • Effective and accurate employee evaluation
Goal 5:  Safe Environment
  • Use of K9 services
  • Training of new staff on safe schools legislation
  • Explore security cameras for parking lot
  • Security door will be locked after 8:30 daily.
Goal 6:  Facilities
  • The physical space will be evaluated and a plan will be created to best structure the facility in a way that adequately meets the space needs of the program including safety, privacy, instructional needs, and promotes the well-being of the students and staff in the ALC program.

Early Childhood Family Education Goals


Goal 1:  Increasing Student Learning 
  • ImPACT teams will develop strategies to look at student data and make changes to classroom teaching designed to positively impact student achievement for formative assessment, summative assessment.
  • Early Childhood team will collaborate with Head Start and local preschools to increase student learning.
  • Collaboration with MN Reading Corps.
Goal 2: School Activities
  • Early Childhood will offer  educational opportunities outside of the school building (Dragon Wagon, field trips)
  • Offer evening classes
  • Offer special events for families
Goal 3: Hiring Practices
  • Timely effective recruitment
  • Effective staff development during years 1-3 (ImPACT, mentorship, in-depth teacher evaluation training)
  • Collaboration with Pine Technical Community College for trainings and mentoring upcoming Early Childhood staff.
  • Collegial atmosphere and supportive, satisfying work environment to increase job satisfaction
