Community Education
Lots! Community Education is education in broad terms. It encompasses activities for people of all ages and stages of life, and it includes opportunities for learning, leading and linking. Among them:
HOW DO I FIND OUT WHATS GOING ON?
The NETWORK is the catalog of activities designed for adults and is published three times a year, in September, December and March. It includes enrichment classes, activities for the We R Able adults with disability program, Early Childhood Family Education programming, and selected offerings from Pine Technical College and Hinckley Community Education. It also highlights notices of community sponsored activities which are submitted to us for marketing.
During the school year flyers informing families of activities offered for children are sent home with elementary students at both Pine City Elementary School and St. Marys as they occur. In addition, each May a Summer Supplement is distributed in the same fashion. It outlines activities offered through community education, summer recreation, Red Cross swimming lessons, camps, etc. Community Education, the City or other groups who submit information to be included may sponsor those activities. Registration information for all activities is included.
From time to time other information is available through the Pine City Pioneer and/or WCMP am and fm radio.
Up-to-the minute information about the status of community education activities is available by calling Carol at 629-4030. The decision about whether or not registration if sufficient to run an activity is generally determined one week prior to the event. If a decision to hold a class or activity is made at that time, additional registrations will be taken until the start.
Community Education activities are cancelled automatically on days when school is closed due to inclement weather. Cancellation announcements will be made over WCMP radio if cancellations are made later in the day. Registered participants will also be notified by phone if possible.
Do you have a talent or interest youd like to share with others? If so, consider becoming an instructor for a community education class. We offer programs for people of all ages, interests and abilities. Coaching on appropriate teaching methods to use for various audiences is also available by request. For more information contact Becky Maki at 629-4030.
CALLING ALL COMMUNITY MEMBERS!
Maybe teaching isnt your thing, but youd be interested in helping design community education activities.
