Fifth Graders Create educational Games to Share
Students in Mrs. Hughes's 5th grade math class put some creative, artistic, AND math skills together to create math games to share with their classmates. They used multiple step, multiple operations, and technical writing according to guidelines they were given. First, they explained the game, and then each set of partners rotated around playing each of the games, critiquing on ease of following rules, skill, entertainment factor, and eye appeal.
Shadow Puppets
Mrs. Stoa's class has been exploring shadows this week! We have been learning what makes them change lengths, shapes, sizes and what makes a dark shadow vs. a light shadow! Each student made a shadow puppet and we went outside to make shadows. The students had a blast creating shadows, working together to make combined shadows and we ended with a great game of Shadow Tag!
Great River Conference Art Show winners
7th Grade FACS
7th grade FACS students are working on their sewing project following technical directions and operating a sewing machine to construct a pair of shorts. They are using the following skills: problem solving, time management, teaching others, cooperative work, and quality work.
BlackBoard Review May 18
The Pine City Education Association invites the public to the Blackboard Review Variety Show on May 18 at 4:30 pm and 8:00 pm in the Pine City Elementary Auditorium. All seats are $5 each. Proceeds fund scholarships for Pine City High School students each year. The recipients of the PCEA scholarship for 2012 were Nicolas Cummings, Joshua Monson, Renee Schminkey, Adam Stolt, Kyle Webster, and Jorie Williamson. College in the Schools FIELD DAY PRESENTATION
The College in the Schools Essentials of Human Anatomy and Physiology class visited the University of Minnesota on April 30th. These students researched the effects of the Western Diet on diabetes and atherosclerosis and created an informational kiosk to share their knowledge. The College in the Schools (CIS) program allows students to earn college credit through the University of Minnesota while attending high school. Over 600 CIS Anatomy and Physiology students from twenty one schools participated in this field day and shared their research.
VIRTUAL DESIGN VIA SKYPE
Students in Mr. Schlichting's Introduction to Engineering and Design (IED) class are working on their final Virtual Design Project. They are teaming up with a school in Barrington, IL and are communicating with other students using Skype. As a team of 3 to 4 they are tasked with designing products such as a candy dispenser or a locker organizer using computer aided drafting and design software and Google Docs. In the picture you see Abby and Ben discussing their team norms and their project timeline with their teammates. They can see, hear, text, email, and share documents with their partners in real time to solve their design challenge.
Boys BASKETBALL End Of Year Camp
Pine City Boys Basketball is gearing up for another summer on the hardwood. The opportunities for the boys to come in and work on their games are endless. Summer Open Gyms will again be Monday-Thursday in four hour blocks each day, Summer League will be on Monday and Wednesday evenings, and there is the opportunity for camps and tournaments as well.
To kick off the summer, the Pine City HOOPS Program in conjunction with the Pine City Boys Basketball Program will be hosting a "end of school year" basketball camp from May 13-15 (K-3) and May 16-18 (4-6).

SCHOOL HEALTH DAY
Sixth grade students participated in their Annual Health Day. There were five sessions available for students to engage in. Each session was 30 minutes long. This year's sessions were: Healthy snacks (yogurt parfait), Drinking and Driving, Seventh Grade transitions, Fit for Life and Extra Curricular activities for seventh grade, and CPR training.
Paraprofessional exam opportunity
Resource Training and Solutions in St. Cloud will be offering the Paraprofessional Exam at 9:00 a.m. on June 7, 2013. Passing this exam is required for all those who want to serve as paraprofessional substitutes or plan to apply for para jobs.
